theater theology….

What do you do when someone asks you to take pictures of an event involving setting up a mobile church in a movie theater, having church services, then breaking everything down again before the theater opens?  You grab a camera!  Thrive Church St. Louis launched in August, and with their impressive lighting system, sound equipment, and group of passionate people helping, they were able to transform a movie theater to serve a totally different purpose and back again in the span of a few hours.  Impressive!

Veteran’s Day 2011

On Veteran’s Day, I got the chance to go to a volunteer project at an elementary school.  The project was put together by “The Mission Continues” and Target.  The school’s teacher’s lounge, courtyard, parking lot, and hallways got a big makeover and the kids got some one-on-one time with many of the volunteers, as well as Senator Blunt.

Jenny’s Senior Pics

Sunday’s shoot was not without it’s stories.  While shooting in several St. Louis landmarks like the Arch grounds, Laclede’s Landing, and Tower Grove Park, we were coached in modeling by a marathon runner in really tight shorts, may or may not have walked into oncoming traffic for a few shots, and ended up having to go through security at the Arch to do an outfit change.  I hope you like your pics Jenny!

Holly and Vinny!

Well, so much for the Post a Week 2011.  It’s been a few months.  Here’s some shots of Holly and Vinny from this past weekend during my trip to KC. Cutest couple ever!

Springtime

In the midst of the Missouri tornado/thunderstorm/hailstorm barrage we received this spring, some flowers did make their appearance this year and I was able to get them before the unseasonal frosts gobbled them up.

Johnson Shut Ins

Last week the weather was great so I hauled my gear out to Johnson Shut-Ins in Southeast Missouri.   To be honest, that place is way to beautiful to be in Missouri.  I had a great time photographing the waterfalls, rock formations, and nature (as well as a few of my boyfriend/assistant Rob pretending to jump off the edge of the rocks).  It was a long drive, but well worth it.  Here are some shots from that trip.

Winter Weather Warning

I spent 3 hours looking at real estate in Arizona, Hawaii, and New Mexico today.  What do these places have in common?  They don’t have the absolutely terrible weather we get here in Missouri.  No snow.  No ice storms.  No news stations telling their impressionable listeners to stock up on the essentials to prepare for days of immobility due to inclement weather (a fact I learned conveniently while in a 10 mile long line at the grocery store).  I’ll take 115 degrees of blistering heat over a “2 day long wintry mix”  any day.  A word to St. Louisans who will be driving between 9-11 tomorrow morning:  don’t think you can drive fast on the ice and then accidentally slide into my car….please. :)

Post-a-Week 2011!!

So, I know I’m late on this…but I just stumbled over this challenge and I’m excited.  Since one of my New Year’s Resolutions is to take at least 1 creative picture a day (sad that I have to make that a resolution after getting a degree in photography), this will be a good way to keep me on track.  Unfortunately, it takes my computer almost a day to upload stuff to WordPress so trying to do the post-a-day challenge would mean quitting my full time job.  Hmmm…what picture should I post?

Our snowman.  My roommate and I just turned 8, by the way.  I don’t care what age you are, when you see good packing snow, you just have to go for it.  Happy snow day!

Welcome to my world, Canon 100mm L f/2.8 lens :)

I got a new lens!!!!  The week of waiting for it to arrive was literally painful.  Although, I will say I love UPS for having such a thorough tracking system.  It’s like they know that secretly I want to know what time my package drove through which states, how many bathroom breaks the driver took, what radio station was playing, and whether or not any reported accidents happened within a 10 mile radius of the truck route.   Anyway, I’ve never been so useless at work as the day that thing was scheduled to arrive;  I spent 8 solid hours hitting refresh every 5 minutes on the tracking page.

Shots from my new toy:

Glo-Bowl at it’s glowiest.

I blame my lack of blog post-ing on the fact that my computer is slow.  Uploading pictures to my computer is like watching paint dry on a wall.  Except after uploading my pictures, I have to perform a 5-step process to make them blog post-able.  And that is like watching paint dry when its still in a bucket full of other wet paint.  Anyway, the next several posts are going to be a list of pictures I’ve taken since May 2010.  Enjoy.
